This image shows some of the intricate inlay work to be found on the exterior of the Taj Mahal. Semi-precious stones are inlaid into the white marble to create various designs and patterns. The best inlay work is to be found inside the building (where photography is prohibited) where some examples of flowers which are approximately one and a half inches across and of which there are hundreds of not thousands, take 64 individual, intricately shaped inlay pieces to make.
